Calla Lily Triptych

Calla Lily  –  Infinite Possibilities

My photographic rendition of calla lilies here is certainly more on the abstract side, however, the symbolic meanings of the elegant flower, popularized in famous artist’s work, has roots in Greek and Roman mythology as well as religion. Freud even added his take on the symbolism by giving sexual connotations to the exotic looking flower that originates from southern Africa.

When the individual images of my triptych are combined, the fluid movement within each connects with the others to form what some may see as an infinite path for the eye to wander. In that wandering, some may fall into a brief visually induced meditation. Others may intellectually seek to identify the subject or possible symbols contained within the image. No right or wrong for the viewer, just different ways to perceive the image.

Does this botanical triptych first engage your aesthetic sense or your mind’s desire to identify?
